South Yorkshire Health Champions (In development)
Health Equity starts here – Young Minds, Big Impact
Young people across Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley are leading change in health and wellbeing.
South Yorkshire Health Champions are a diverse group of young people working with Chilypep and the South Yorkshire Children & Young People’s Alliance. We make sure services listen to us, include us, and meet real needs—so every young person can thrive.
Why we exist (3 quick points):
- Hear every voice: We represent communities across South Yorkshire.
- Create real change: We co‑design services, policies and training.
- Lead with courage: We challenge assumptions and champion equity.
About Us
What is a South Yorkshire Health Champion?
Champions are young people who bring lived experience, ideas and energy to shape better health and wellbeing across our region. We work alongside professionals to design services that are fair, accessible and youth‑friendly.
How we work:
- Co‑produce projects with Chilypep and regional partners.
- Represent our local areas—Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley.
- Influence decisions at Board meetings, workshops and public events.
- Make it practical: From crisis text services to transition pathways, we help turn plans into action.
Our partners:
We collaborate with Chilypep, the South Yorkshire ICS/ICB, local authorities, NHS providers, universities, and national organisations—including Barnardo’s and the UCL Institute of Health Equity.
Our promise:
We lead, challenge and inspire—so young people’s voices shape the services we use every day.
